Dr. Sumit Gandhi is a distinguished academician currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering since July 2026 at the Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET Lucknow), an autonomous constituent Institute of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, India. He has dedicated over 22+ years to research, teaching and administration, contributing significantly to technical education, curriculum development, testing & consultancy and institutional development. His expertise spans across open channel flow, spillway characteristics, corrugated bed flow, design of hydraulic structures, sediments transport in channel, water resources, river engineering, sustainable building materials and concrete technology.
Starting his teaching career as a lecturer in July 2006, Dr. Sumit Gandhi joined the Jaypee University of Engineering and Technology, Guna in Madhya Pradesh. During this tenure, he was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor and then to Professor & HOD in recognition of his dedication to teaching, research and administrative contributions. His long tenure of twenty (20) years at JUET saw him become a Chairman (Board of Studies), Chairman and Compliance Officer (International Cell), Coordinator (Wind Engineering Application Centre, WEAC), Chairman (Departmental Academic Integrity Panel, DAIP), Chairman (Result Compilation Committee, CE), Member (University Academic Council), Member (Research Advisory Council), Convenor (Ethics committee), Member (University Standing Committee), Member (Internal Quality Assurance Cell, IQAC), Member (NAAC Committee), Editorial Member (JUET Chronicle), Member (Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics, CARE), Member (Unfair means committee), Member (Doctorate Programme Monitoring Committee, DPMC), Member (Anti-Ragging Flying Squad), Member (Library Committee Member, CE) and Warden. He also served as the criteria chair for NAAC Criterion 3. He was also actively involved and successfully completed various testing and consultancy works for government and public sector organizations such as JaiPrakash Power Ventures Ltd., GAIL, NFL, WRD Guna, PWD Guna, etc.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Gandhi has been actively involved in professional societies. Dr. Gandhi is a life member of Institution of Engineers (IEI), Life member of Institution of National Society of Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power (FMFP), Life Member of Indian Society of Hydraulics (ISH), Member of International Association of Engineers (IAENG), Professional Member of the Institute for Science, Engineering & Technology Research (ISET Research). He has been recognized as an eminent reviewer to different journal of repute such as Water Resources Management, Springer, Journal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, Journal of Civil Engineering and Construction, International Journal of Pavement Research and Technology, Springer Nature, Energy Storage and Conversion, Editorial Member of International Journal ‘Challenge Journal of Water Engineering’, Editorial Board Member of ‘Civil and Energy Research’ Journal, etc. Dr. Gandhi had also received international travel grant from MPCST for attending 5th IAHR International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures ISHS-2014 and 11th National Conference on Hydraulics in Civil Engineering, University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia held during 25th -27th June 2014.
Dr. Sumit Gandhi has a prolific publication record, contributing significantly to his fields of interest. His scholarly work includes numerous journal articles, conference papers, books and book chapters. Some of his notable publications are in the areas of prismatic and non-prismatic channel flow, spillway flow characteristics and sustainable concrete technology. He has authored and edited many books, book chapters and papers in the field of open channel flow and sustainable materials. Dr. Gandhi has supervised 3 Ph.D. scholars, guided 2 M. Tech dissertations, more than 45 B.Tech projects and holds 1 copyright and 6 national patents. He had delivered many expert talks and lectures on water as a renewable energy source, role of WTP/STP for water conservation and recycling process, Hydropower: An Indian scenario, cement and concrete technology, intellectual property right (IPR), Engineering lateral entry: pathway to better career opportunities, etc.
Through his continuous effort to serve the society, Dr. Gandhi is dedicated to academic excellence, student mentorship and innovation in Civil Engineering.
