Blindness poses a significant public health challenge in India, where a considerable number of individuals grapple with visual impairment. The prevalence of blindness is notably high, primarily attributed to causes such as cataracts, refractive errors, glaucoma, and corneal opacities, many of which are treatable or preventable. The government has responded with initiatives like the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI), focusing on providing essential eye care services and conducting cataract surgeries.
