The modern power grid is gravitating towards power electronic inverter dominated system as most of the renewable generation system uses power electronic converters as an interface to the power grid. The penetration level of Distributed Generation (DG) units is rising rapidly in power system with regard to its overall power capacity. So, the inverter control need to be adjusted to different operating modes microgrid. For the safe functioning of inverter based microgrid, several inverter control designs and adaptive protection utilizing various settings for different operating circumstances are recommended in literature, however, there are some important technical challenges relevant to the short and medium term measures to ensure system stability (voltage, transient and frequency stability) at high shares of non-synchronous generation are yet to be explored. This thesis work aims to explore and suggest suitable emasures to address these issues.
